Hare Coursing Season - Be Vigilant and Report It

As we move into the autumn and winter months, we often see an increase in reports of hare coursing across our rural communities.

Hare coursing is an illegal activity where dogs are used to chase, catch or kill hares, causing significant distress to wildlife, damage to crops and farmland, and often resulting in intimidation of landowners and local residents.

Please be on the lookout for: 
- Vehicles parked in gateways, farm tracks or field entrances 
- Groups of people with lurcher-type dogs in rural areas 
- Vehicles driving across fields or off public roads 
- Unfamiliar 4x4s, vans or cars gathering in isolated countryside locations 
- Suspicious activity involving dogs chasing wildlife.

If you witness hare coursing or suspicious activity:  
Call 999 if it is happening at the time and a crime is in progress.  
Report non-emergency information via 101 or through our online reporting system.  
If safe to do so, note vehicle registrations, descriptions of those involved and the location.
